Lego Arctic theme waves and interesting sets

LEGO Arctic is a long-running subtheme of LEGO City (and previously LEGO Town) centered on polar exploration, scientific research, and survival in extreme environments.
Known for its distinct vehicle color schemes and highly collectible animal molds, the theme has evolved across multiple generations to keep the icy adventures fresh.

Core Themes & Evolution

Key Visual Features

The LEGO Arctic subtheme has evolved across major waves:

Classic Wave (2000)

This was the theme's debut under the classic LEGO Town system. It featured a distinct palette of orange, light blue, and white, with a storyline centered around scientists drilling for mysterious blue energy crystals trapped in polar ice.

First LEGO City Wave (2014)

LEGO revived the line by fully integrating it into the modern LEGO City universe. Vehicles adopted a uniform, bright safety-orange look. This wave introduced specialized animal molds like Husky sled dogs and polar bears.

Prehistoric Ice Age Wave (2018)

This wave shifted focus heavily toward paleontology. While maintaining the bright orange vehicles, the core mission was to extract extinct Ice Age creatures frozen inside large, transparent ice blocks.

Deep Sea Arctic Wave (2023)

This wave merged polar exploration with deep-sea diving, trading the classic orange for a sleek dark blue, yellow, and white color scheme.
The sets focused on maritime research, shipwrecks, and new marine animals like Orcas and seals.

Modern Arctic Wave (2025)

The latest generation moves away from large, all-at-once waves into continuous, targeted releases. The current highlight of this era is the introduction of heavy machinery, polar trains, and new fauna like white arctic wolves.
