KRE-O - Brick system like Lego®
Brand name: KRE-O
Company: Hasbro
From:
USA
Lego compatible: Yes
Quality: Medium
KRE-O is a construction toy brand owned by Hasbro, originally launched in 2011 to compete directly with LEGO by leveraging the American company's most popular franchises.
The pieces were manufactured by Oxford Co., Ltd., a South Korean company known for its own high-quality bricks compatible with international standards.
KRE-O pieces are compatible with LEGO and other brands such as Mega Bloks and Cobi.
Many of their Transformers sets didn't actually "transform"; to change from robot to vehicle, the user had to disassemble and reassemble the model in the other form.
KRE-O focused primarily on Hasbro's intellectual properties and other collaborations:
- Transformers: The main line, featuring characters like Optimus Prime and Bumblebee.
- G.I. Joe: Sets based on classic military gear.
- Star Trek: Released in collaboration with the film Star Trek Into Darkness.
- CityVille Invasion: An original line based on the popular Zynga game that used "Sonic Motion" technology to move the figures.
- Dungeons & Dragons: Small sets and figures based on the role-playing universe.
Currently, KRE-O is mostly discontinued. No new main lines have been released since approximately 2017, and Hasbro has begun collaborating directly with LEGO to produce official Transformers sets (such as the Optimus Prime from the LEGO Icons line). Today, most products can only be found on the secondhand market or as old stock in discount stores.
